Welcome to Loden’s Leadership Conversations.
Today, let’s explore: Why this book exists, and why right now matters
Gather Around, Growth Alliance Members.
For the past several months, we’ve been having an honest conversation about trust.
Not the version that looks good on a leadership slide. The real version, the one that holds under pressure, the one that splinters quietly before it breaks loudly, the one that gets borrowed against until the account runs dry.
Before I tell you why I wrote this book, there are two things I want you to have.
When you pre-order Before It Breaks before July 7, two things are waiting for you.
First, the companion workbook. It’s a fillable PDF designed to move with you, chapter by chapter, through the seven pillars. Reflection prompts, diagnostic questions, and tools you can put to work with your team this week. Built to be used, not admired.
Second, a seat at a live masterclass. On Tuesday, July 14, I’m hosting The Seven Pillars in Practice twice in one day — 12:00 PM Central and 7:00 PM Central — so you can pick the session that fits your schedule. I’ll walk through the framework in real time, take your questions, and show what applying the pillars actually looks like under pressure.
Both are included with every pre-order. Neither is available separately at launch.

Now, let me tell you why this book exists.
I didn’t write it from a distance.
I wrote it from inside the chair. From years of leading a school district through the kind of pressure that tests everything you think you know about yourself as a leader. Budget cuts that required decisions with no good options. Personnel situations where every path forward cost something. Board dynamics that demanded clarity and steadiness when I felt neither.
I made mistakes in those seasons. Real ones. And I learned more from those moments than from anything that went smoothly.
What I kept coming back to, through all of it, was a single question.
What separates the leaders who hold steady from the ones who lose the room?
I spent years watching that question answer itself. In the leaders I coached. In the executives I sat across from. In my own experience. And what emerged wasn’t a personality type or a natural gift. It was a system. Seven pillars that, when they’re all present and intentional, create something that holds when everything around it is being tested.
That’s what Before It Breaks is.
It’s not a motivational book. It’s not a framework you read once and put on a shelf. It’s a working guide for leaders who are serious about building something that lasts, and who want to catch the cracks before they become crises.
I want to be honest with you about something.
There are a lot of leadership books. I know that. You know that. And most of them say something true, but from a distance that makes the truth hard to apply.
This one is different because it was written from the inside. From real decisions, real pressure, real consequences. The stories in this book are not illustrative. They’re real. The tools aren’t theoretical. They’ve been tested in the hardest moments I know, and in the hardest moments of leaders I’ve walked alongside.
If you’ve been reading these newsletters over the past several months, you’ve already been inside the book. The trust debt. The quiet signals. The first crack. The 72-Hour Repair Protocol. That’s the work.
Before It Breaks goes deeper. And it gives you something to hand to every leader on your team.
Rashid Siddiqui trains coaches and leaders across multiple continents. His take on why the framework travels across cultures and contexts:
“I work with coaches and leaders around the world, and the challenge is always the same: trust is essential but rarely engineered. Before It Breaks turns trust into a buildable system. The seven pillars are the bedrock of human-centered coaching conversations and leadership decisions. The Loden Framework is a valuable tool for any leader and management team that desires to master leadership.”
— Rashid Siddiqui, Co-Founder, International Coaching Institute
The book releases July 7th.
I’m not going to ask you to do anything dramatic. No countdown. No urgency.
Just this: if what we’ve been exploring together over these past weeks has made you think differently about trust in your organization, the book will take you further.
And if you know a leader who needs this conversation, share this newsletter with them today.
That’s the ask. Simple as that.
The foundation either holds or it doesn’t. This book is about making sure yours holds, before it has to.
Reflection Questions:
• Over the past several months, which conversation we’ve had landed hardest for you, and what has it made you look at differently?
• Who in your circle is leading right now without the foundation they need? Would this book, and the workbook, serve them?
May your leadership journey be rich with purpose, relationships, resilience, and discovery. I look forward to exploring new insights together in our next issue.
Lead Deliberately,
Gearl Loden
